Portraits of Place

Mark ForteWelcome to my photography galleries. I have always been fascinated by the way objects and places speak to us. They tell us about their present condition, of course, but they also hint at their history, making us wonder how they came to be the way they are. It is much like the way a good portrait not only shows us the subject, but also hints at the subject's life. In this sense, I see myself as a portrait photographer, though I rarely photograph people. The built and natural environments provide the subjects for my portraits, and I hope these photographs will reveal to you the same sense of space, time, and memory that they convey to me.

The Galleries to the right contain a number of albums arranged thematically . In the search box to the left, you can use keywords to search for images

Polychromes comprise my most current work. These striking color images were developed to enhance the weathered patina of the architecture that is frequently my subject. For a brief description of my polychrome process or to read my Artist's Statement, click here.

These galleries will be revised periodically, so please revisit.

Prints are available for purchase in my online shop at Etsy.com.
